RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHER

Position: Retinal Photographer
Department: Health Centre
Reports To: Health Educator Coordinator
1. JOB SUMMARY: To take digital pictures, of diagnostic quality of the retina in diabetic patients who are living or affiliated with the First Nation Communities in Alberta as part of the SLICK (Screening for Limbs I-Eyes Cardiovascular and kidneys) program of the Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative. Photographer is expected to travel to the First Nation Communities for one to two weeks at a time depending on the location of and access to the communities.
2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform retinal photography on-site at various First Nation Communities
- Set up and dismantles imager including connecting the equipment to a lap top
- Collects and records basic patient information (height, weight, age, name, address, phone number) onto the laptop
- Explains the retinal imagery progress to the clients to prepare them for procedure
- Positions the clients at the equipment and gives instructions during the exam (i.e. look certain directions, stay still) in order to capture the required retinal images clearly
- Operates a laptop computer with appropriate software for capturing and saving retinal images to a computer program and burns files onto compact disc
- Delivers the compact disc to the appropriate person located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Attends regular feedback sessions by the Ophthalmic Specialist on the quality of the pictures taken in terms of the assessment value of the pictures and weather the images captured the required information properly
- Photographs the retina of fully dilated eyes of diabetic clients. Photographs seven fields (areas) in each eye. Field one or two are taken stereoscopically, meaning that they are shot two times each to provide a three dimensional image. Adjusts camera according to the required field and shifts the camera from left eye to right eye. Focuses camera to capture clear appropriate retinal images in order to provide required information on the critical areas of the eye for the assessment and diagnosis done by the Ophthalmic Specialist
- Ensure the proper maintenance and functioning of the camera equipment and laptop by detecting programs and reporting them to the appropriate specialist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and Health Canada Informatics. Takes the necessary steps to have the equipment maintained and repaired with direction and assistance from the Royal Alexandra Hospital Data Coordinator. Takes custody of the equipment (sign in/out) and is responsible for the whereabouts, security and functioning of the equipment during custody period
- Drives the FNIHB SLICK vehicle, with the SLICK FNIHB nurse and the necessary equipment to specific First Nations Communities throughout all of Alberta including remote communities. Drive for long distances (occasionally on gravel or dirt roads) through a variety of weather and road conditions. Schedules overnight accommodations at nearby hotel for duration of stay in that community. Takes SLICK vehicle to mechanic for regular maintenance. Ensure vehicle is cleaned, both interior and exterior as required.
- Loading and unloading of the equipment from the vehicle and sets up the equipment in the Health Centre on a daily basis with guidance on where to set up from Health Centre staff such as receptionist. Nurse in change, Homecare Nurse, CHR or Health Director, Liaises and communicates with the above mentioned Health Centre staff
- Assists SLICK nurses with data entry for the SLICK program on site at the community (patient information) and in Edmonton when not on the road (e.g. Evaluations, Surveys, etc). Assists SLICK nurses with qualify assurance and calibration of equipment
- Obtain schedule of visits from SLICK nurse. Ensures that the SLICK vehicle arrives in the community according to the schedule or discusses
3 QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRMENTS:
- Post-Secondary Education in Health field preferred
- Knowledge of standard photographic techniques, materials, processes and equipment
- Proficient in performing a variety of complex medical or ophthalmic photography
- One or Two weeks of Clinical Training by an Expert Ophthalmic Photographer will be provided
- Undergo training by the regional ADI team and/or the Tel-Ophthalmology Reading Centre to provide visual acuity, Intra-ocular pressure testing and install dilating eye drops clients receiving retinal photography
- Receive Training and become competent in the using the Bayer point of care machines and the required assurance
- Understand of First Nations culture, traditions, history and Political environment is also an asset
- Experience in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must complete a Security check
- Required to sign a Oath of Confidentiality
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
3. SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience

YOUTH NNADAP WORKER
ONE YEAR CONTRACT

Position: Youth NNADAP Worker (One Year Contract)
Department: Mental Health “Everyone Helping One Another”
Reports To: NNADAP Coordinator or Mental Health Director
1. JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the NNADAP Coordinator, the Youth NNADAP Worker (Male preferred) will provide support to youth in the community,
2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide basic alcohol and drug education sessions to the public and in particular for children and youth adults
- Provide a basic life skills program to youth adults in developing youth leadership clubs/groups within the community
- Organize and implement alcohol/drug free leisure and recreation activities with the youth
- Work closely with local agencies in providing services to target group activities
- Provide timely reports and other documentation as required by the program
- Be required to keep up-to-date in the field of alcohol/drug on the youth
- Attend staff, and special meeting, case conference, workshops, wellness programs, etc when required by the NNADAP Coordinator
- Other duties as required by the NNADAP Coordinator, related to this position
3. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRMENTS:
- High School Diploma and/or equivalent life experience including but not limited
- Basic background in prevention in alcohol/drug abuse programming
- Good reading and writing skills
- Ability to work with children and the young adults enthusiastically
- Self-starter and show initiative
- Good communications skills with local agencies
- Ability to network with local agencies
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must complete a criminal background check and Child ware check
- Willingness to take Training (basic and advance) and other related training/accreditation
as required (This is mandatory)
- Required to sign an Oath of Confidentiality
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Minimum three (3) years sobriety mandatory
